Protocol for
Aquatic Sampling

Put on the gloves provided.

If sampling directly from the water source, skip to step 4.

Open the plastic sampling bag provided and collect subsamples at multiple points around the sampling location (e.g. at the left bank, middle, and right bank of a river. Or, every 10m along a 100m stretch)

Roll down the top of the bag, shake the water sample, then carefully prop the bag upright (or ask someone to hold it for you).

Fill the syringe with water.

Attach the filter to the end of the syringe with a small twist.

Push water through the filter.

Remove the filter and repeat steps 4–7 until it is too hard to push water through the filter.

Up to 1.5L / 25 syringes.

Fill the syringe with air, reattach the filter and push air through the filter to dry it.

Do this 3 times.

Transfer the cap from the small syringe to the outlet of the filter.

Attach the small syringe to the filter with a small twist, push the preservative solution into the filter, and give it a shake.

Leaving the small syringe attached, place the filter back into the plastic bag.

Fill in the sampling sheet provided and return, with the sample, into the kit bag.
